About this Collection
For many years, society viewed natural afro hair as unprofessional, messy, and undesirable. During the 1960s, people with afro-textured hair finally embraced their natural beauty through the “Black is Beautiful” movement.
From the Horn of Africa to the Americas; Hair has always been important in Black Culture. In 2019, the CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) Act [SB 188] was passed in California to combat discrimination. Since then, 11 more states (New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, Washington, Maryland, Connecticut, New Mexico, Delaware, Nebraska, and Oregon) also have the CROWN act as a law.
The word Nappy itself is a term used to describe tightly coiled, kinky Black hair. Unfortunately, the term is not always used in a positive light. And that's why we named our company Nappy, to reclaim the word that describes us and show that we're proud of who we are. We are Nappy and our nappy hair IS good hair.
Nappy’s Good Hair collection features photos of Black men/women/people in braids, locs, or just plain natural curls.
